Explanation of "To Me, The One Who Loved You"

«To Me, The One Who Loved You» and «To Every You That I've Loved Before» are two films that were released on October 7, 2022. These two films were famous at the time since the ending of the plot changes depending on which movie you watched first. Everything is based on the characters' point of view.

In this blog I am going to explain the movie "To Me, The One Who Loved You" since it is quite confusing. I clarify that this blog contains spoilers for the film, be warned.

Koyomi con cara un tanto seria

So, this is what I understood:

First let's declare that world1 will be the world where the movie began, while world2 will be where Koyomi married her assistant Kazune.

It all makes sense until we see Shiori die in a car accident in the parallel world where she and Koyomi switch so they can get married at the age of 14. After Shiori dies, Koyomi is devastated by what happened and is determined to bring her back, since Shiori's ghost was still "alive" and trapped, which caused him to become a specialist in the field of study of parallel worlds.

After a while while Koyomi was working in his office, he suddenly changes world. After opening his eyes, he sees that he was sleeping in bed with an unknown girl (THIS is world2, then he returns to world1).

While he was researching how to bring Shiori back, he is assigned an assistant named Kazune. Some time after Kazune was assigned, Koyomi came to the conclusion that if he changed worlds, Shiori's ghost would too and she would become human again. But if he does this, his memories of the world1 will be erased. Kazune hearing this goes crazy and didn't accept it, but eventually she does.

A change of world later

Before changing worlds, Koyomi promises Shiori to meet her again 60 years later in world 2, where she would be human.

The time in the movie where Koyomi and Kazune are shown married and their entire life is the world2. This was where Koyomi changed the world in her old age with the help of Kazune. Koyomi changed from world1 in which he was 60 years old, to world2 in which he was only 7 years old.

The reason for this change was because if he was with Kazune, then it meant that he would never meet Shiori in that world. So Shiori would never escape for the two to get married. This would mean that Shiori would still be alive.

Fast forward to the end…

We see Koyomi in his old age lying in his bed when he receives a notification that he must meet someone at the intersection that day. By the way, if you are curious what happened to his life in world 2, it was the moment where he saw Koyomi and Kazune. They would eventually have children and a granddaughter.

So Koyomi went to the crossing and met none other than Shiori in her old age, where she said the same phrase she said at the beginning of the movie when she and Koyomi were still normal children.

Personal opinion…

Honestly, it was a fairly linear film in my opinion, since the events are explained to us from the beginning. In my case, I saw the other movie first, so this one was to clarify details. Comparing both films, I liked the other one much more because of the uncertainty of what was happening and the changes in the plot that there were.

That said, both are good films, the other a little better than the other (which I will explain in the next blog) but both are enjoyable.
