What do I mean by “real value”?

Well, the idea is that all of us who participate in this Discord channel are able to provide something of value to others, create good reflections, debate, build interesting points of view together, and share all the knowledge that is necessary.

In addition to that, you can also talk about any other type of matter; Since as far as the blog statistics indicate, there will be many talks about Manga, Anime and also about the 16 MBTI Personalities.

You can find below a broader summary of the initial design approach with which this community was born.

Discord Geek Community and Blog

In addition to all this, another of the main reasons for creating this Discord server is to be able to meet everyone who is interested in interacting in a more dynamic way with the blog. In this way, I will be completely open to receive suggestions about new content, to share philosophical reflections, debates about any geek, conclusions, etc... that are reached as a community, and much more.

How can you join?

If you do not have Discord installed on your computer, you can access it from your browser, but you will need to enter three pieces of information: a nickname, your age, and an email. The latter is important because you will need to verify your email in order to access this Discord community.

Design Approach

Continuing briefly with the design and learning patterns proposed by Richard Elmore, former professor at Harvard and with whom I have taken the Leaders of Learning course, on the 4 Learning Styles, this community is presented from a point of view Community-Distributed, which means that everyone will be able to share the information they want (within community standards), and in turn everyone will be able to learn and interact with whoever they think is most convenient, beneficial, or entertaining.

Physical design

It is evident that there will be no material place in which to meet. Any interaction will be carried out through the different text and voice channels offered by the Discord server. There will be communication channels with well-differentiated themes, such as anime and manga, 16 MBTI Personalities, chess, video game, general chat…

Cognitive design

These last two years I have realized that there is nothing more powerful than shared knowledge, that is why I want to bring together a group of people interested in debating, talking about geeky or philosophical topics, continuing to learn and, above all, continuing to grow. Be jack of all trades and master of none It is not in the least something negative, since Having tools to solve basic problems in any area is a really important skill.. Let's all give it a go and get a better perspective, whether it's about geeky topics or more educational or philosophical topics.

Social design

Although there is no physical place that unites the community, it is to be hoped that through text chat, voice chat, and various meetings and events a great social environment can be achieved, where everyone can contribute their grain of sand.

In addition to being able to contribute to the blog by suggesting improvements or topics to talk about, it also includes the possibility that all members of this small community of philosophical geeks (:P) can publish their own content on portalfriki.com, as long as they this one be interesting.

As far as "various events" are concerned, the plan is to create and be able to participate in events that motivate the community to work on their gray matter; such as video game tournaments, writing contests, chess, anime quizzes, etc... Without a doubt this is the section to which I would like to dedicate more time and with which to have the opportunity to create great ties between the community. There is nothing more beneficial than a healthy competition environment ;p

Cultural design

The culture of the community has to be as varied as there are people on the server: each individual will have their own cover letter and profile on the server, customizable as long as one wants to invest time in it. This letter will contain non-sensitive data, but interesting for the rest of the community, such as the MBTI Personality each, anime / favorite video game, ELO Chess, job/studies you are pursuing, etc…

In the end, when it comes to culture from the point of view of behavior and implicit norms of the community, you only have to follow one premise: your freedom ends where the freedom of others begins.

The server values will be those of a collective-distributed community: learn everything that may interest you, and share so that others can learn from everything that seems interesting to you.

emotional design

Emotionally speaking, I hope that all of you who dare to participate feel as comfortable (or more) as at home, have a great time and can learn and help many other people with similar interests and concerns. In the end it will be essential treat others the same way we would like to be treated.

I hope you have a pleasant experience being part of this philosophical geek-server, and that we can get to know each other and interact much more closely.
