  • Assassination Classroom
  • Baccano!
  • Belzeebub
  • Berserk
  • Code Geass

It is curious that half of this top of recommended animes start with the first 4 letters of the alphabet.

Discover the order of my personal top 20 seinen anime and their reasons by reviewing the rest of the article 😉

Top Recommended Seinen Animes

Clarification: I consider these 20 recommended animes to be as good as any other on the list itself, and although they are organized into a top according to whether I have enjoyed them more or less, in no way does that mean that they can be the best recommendations for you in that order ..

Top 20.- Death Note

Note to self: 9 / 10

Death Note, top 20 de animes recomendados

To start this top of recommended seinen animes we have: Death note, a manga that began publishing in 2003 and became immensely popular thanks to its original and fascinating starting premise.

One of the smartest people in all of Japan receives the weapon of a god of death: a notebook that ends the life of anyone whose name is written in it.

After an excessive number of criminals dying mysteriously throughout the world, and after seeing how neither the FBI nor the CIA managed to obtain any clues, the best detective in the world is summoned, a person who only appears in case of There is an emergency greater than any other organization.

Who will emerge victorious? A super intelligent criminal killer who decides to take justice into his own hands, murdering from his home with a simple notebook, or the best detective in the world with help and all the resources of the most powerful organizations on the planet?

I have no doubt that Death Note would be in my top 10 favorite anime, but since it is by far the most popular anime on the list, I don't think it needs a recommendation beyond number twenty.

Top 19.- Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyojin

Note to self: 9 / 10

shingeki no kyojin o attack on titan, uno de los mejores animes seinen de la historia

In the Top 19 of my most recommended animes we find Shingeki ni Kyojin / Attack on Titan. Again one of the most popular animes in this top. For this reason it is not in a higher ranking: because there is no need to recommend it.

Shingeki no Kyojin is a masterpiece that began on a very different path. Its first season did not convey anything in particular to me, and it only stood out for its original way of showing fear and suffering. But that will undoubtedly change soon. By the time we see what Captain Ewrin is capable of, you know that the story goes beyond the gore sensation it conveyed at the beginning.

Shingeki no Kyojin is not an anime specially made for the viewer's enjoyment. Rather, it is made to leave a bad taste in your mouth. It is not the main objective, but it is the consequence, since Shingeki no Kyojin immerses you in war. You see firsthand what war between two nations is like.

In Shingeki no Kyojin there are protagonists, but there are no good guys, nor are there bad guys. There are no heroes, nor are there villains. That's why it's so engaging: in each chapter absolutely anything can happen, just like in a war conflict. The characters you meet as protagonists do not have any life insurance; They die throughout the anime, or become crippled. It is a harsh reflection on the war, its origins, its course and all the consequences it leaves behind.

I hope that everyone who values Attack on Titan very positively has enjoyed the dialogues more than the fights, because otherwise they have not understood anything. It is a work created from the beginning to leave you with the bitter feeling that no one has won, not even you as a viewer, and this is only conveyed by the epic dialogues of the series.

Top 18.- Alice in Borderland

Note to self: 7.5 / 10

alice in borderland portada del primer anime recomendado

Top 18 Recommended Animes: Alice in Borderland.

The top 18 of these recommended seinen animes is Alice in Borderland: a manga that I read not long ago; I think it has its respective anime and even a live-action adaptation exclusive to Netflix.

Its main focus revolves around psychology, as it tries to capture the behavior of human beings when their lives are at stake and they have to compete against other individuals in various activities or games; But although the psychological aspect is very well captured, what I liked most, without a doubt, was the outcome and the final games.

At first I didn't think it was going to be one of my recommended animes, but it's getting interesting, and I recommend waiting until the characters arrive at “The Beach”, which is when things get really enjoyable.

In one of my articles I also analyze one of the final games: Analysis of the King of Diamonds game, the definitive intelligence game.

Top 17.- Angel Beats!

Note to self: 8 / 10

angel beats, top 8 de animes recomendados

Angel Beats! It is a fantastic drama that has a very well-deserved place in this top of recommended animes. Its story is quite mysterious from the beginning, which is not bad, and its conclusion, along with its cast of characters, are perfect.

I don't have much more to say about this anime, since it is very short, but in those few chapters it gives you plenty of time to appreciate one of the most beautiful Japanese works I have seen since I started watching anime.

Top 16.- Kenichi

Note to self: 8 / 10

Kenichi el discípulo más fuerte de al historia

Top 16 Recommended Animes: Kenichi.

Kenichi, the strongest disciple in history It has a brief anime adaptation, but I do not recommend it since it is incomplete and the manga is already more interesting.

In it we can see and read the development of our protagonist, Kenichi, a boy who wants to learn martial arts to protect the people he loves.

It is a manga with very funny moments, and the construction of the fights and characters are exceptional, showing fights between all types of martial arts.

I, personally, have been practicing kickboxing for five years and have read other martial arts mangas such as Baki, Fist of the North Star or even Ranma 1/2, but none capture the essence of martial arts as well as Kenichi, nor come close to create characters and tensions through fights as good as the ones you see in this work.

Top 15.- Akame Ga Kill

Note to self: 7 / 10

akame ga kill

In 15th place in the top of recommended seinen animes we find Akame Ga Kill, with an incredible manga and an anime that, although not really faithful to the original work, can also be greatly enjoyed.

The story focuses on a small organization of assassins who want to end the extreme corruption that exists in the high positions of their government, but they will have to face many different challenges to achieve their goal.

The idea with which this work begins is quite interesting, but the most notable thing is its cast of characters: they are all truly unique, with their own charisma and abilities, and give rise to very memorable combats and scenes.

Top 14.- Beelzebub

Note to self: 7 / 10

beelzebub, top 7 de animes recomendados

Beelzebub It occupies 14th place in this top of recommended animes, and it achieves this position even though it is a supernatural comedy anime (a genre that I do not enjoy at all).

In it, the strongest student in Japan is forced to take care of the first descendant of Satan, and will have to raise him among humans so that he is capable of destroying all of humanity in the future.

The characters in this anime are the most eccentric you can find; The story progresses in a surprisingly interesting way, the fights are very entertaining, and the comedy scenes are on another level (at least for my selective sense of humor, since I have never found any comedy anime funny).

I can't say much more about this anime. It is not a work that will mark you for life, but if you want to distract yourself for a while and look for a simple anime that still maintains a good story and character development: that is Beelzebub.

Top 13.- The Promise Neverland

Note to self: 8 / 10

The Promised Neverland portada del tercer anime recomendado

Top 13 Recommended Animes: The Promise Neverland.

In eighth place in the top recommended seinen anime we have The Promised Neverland, another manga that I thoroughly enjoyed, and although it also has anime, if you prefer to read the manga (like me) I recommend that you listen to the original soundtrack of its animation in the background.

In this work we are shown the magnificent life from the perspective of some orphan children who supposedly live in an orphanage, but already in the first episode we discover that this is not a real orphanage, but a farm to raise humans who then serve as food for a superior species.

Throughout the course of the plot we follow the lives of these intelligent children who discover the truth and try to escape. This recommended anime is not only a truly entertaining and emotional work, but it also gives you plenty of food for thought. What would happen if other higher beings treated us like cattle, the same way we treat animals?

Top 12.- Kaiji

Note to self: 8 / 10

kaiji, top 6 de animes recomendados

In 12th place in the top of recommended seinen animes we find Kaiji, an anime that I tried to watch when I was 12 or 13 years old and was horrified (hehehehe).

Kaiji has some similarity to Kakegurui (a more recent and well-known anime), in the sense that everything revolves around risky bets, but this one tells the story of a Japanese boy who is forced to participate in this series of challenges to clear all his debts. In these games, millionaires bet gigantic amounts of money while those in debt bet parts of their bodies or even their lives.

The games of all seasons are incredible, with dizzying tension, and although they may seem like games that require luck, only the most astute player will end up winning the bet.

It is an anime in which you will see blood, and people lose their lives in a very cruel way, but that aspect is not what prevented me from finishing the anime when I was little, but rather the psychological tension and all the stress that the bets themselves generate. . If there is something that this anime saga takes to another level, it is the psychological empathy that it makes you feel with the participants at all times. One hundred percent recommended if you want to immerse yourself in this world of betting where only the most astute survive.

Top 11.- Dr.Stone

Note to self: 8 / 10

dr stone, anime y manga basados en la ciencia

Dr Stone It occupies 11th place in this top of recommended animes, and in turn both its manga and anime represent the most recent works within this list, released in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

The story centers on Senkuu, a highly gifted, science-loving boy, who turns out to be one of the first humans to unpetrify himself after a strange event that petrified and kept alive all humans 3,700 years ago.

This anime achieves what I enjoy the most: giving you truly epic moments without using even a hint of action, with only dialogue or subtle actions that end up meaning a lot.

The explanations of scientific concepts and the value given to information and knowledge in this work are fascinating in all aspects.

Top 10.- Terra Formars

Note to self: 7.5 / 10

Terra Formars portada del manga y anime

Top 10 Recommended Animes: Terra Formars.

Terra Formars It is a very curious manga that was also adapted to anime and that could not be missing from this set of recommended seinen animes.

The main premise is that humanity wants to exterminate the giant cockroaches that have developed on Mars, to avoid future problems, but since these insects are much stronger than the average human, the crew of the spacecraft have to genetically modify their bodies.

Each of them has genes from some of the most powerful and lethal insects in the world, thus answering the question “how lethal would insects be if they were the size of a human?”

If you take a look at my blog you will realize that I am a really curious person, so it is not surprising that this anime fascinated me both because of how educational it is, and because of the interesting fights that we see in it.

Top 9.- Monster

Note to self: 8 / 10

Monster en mi top 10 de animes recomendados

Top 9 Recommended Animes: Monster.

In ninth place in the top recommended seinen animes we have Monster, an old work, which began to be published in 1994, and was adapted into an anime eight years later.

The course of the story may seem slow, but if it were not, it would not become the great work that it is, showing us the life of a neurosurgeon who saves the life of Johan, a boy who will later become an expert psychological manipulator and the most dangerous criminal in Germany.

During our journey with the protagonist, following Johan's trail, we meet many people, they tell us their story, and we can learn about each one's motivations, indirectly appreciate the child's growth, and even learn that even the most perverse people have a human background.

As you can see, although for me it has to be a recommended 100% anime, it is not an anime that everyone will like; You have to know how to enjoy it, and try to understand it.

Analysis of Monster and his Antagonist – The importance of Identity

Top 7 and 8.- Ryohgo Narita

We cannot talk about the top 14 or the top 15 without mentioning the author of both works: Ryohgo Narita.

This mangaka and light novel writer guides his works from a very original point of view, creating incredibly eccentric and dynamic characters, because for him, they are the soul of any story.

In this way, his works start from very interesting premises with the sole objective that the viewer enjoys the narrative.

Never ask yourself who the protagonist is when you see or read one of his works, nor even wonder when the events are happening, since as he rightly says: «The protagonists are mere illusions; True stories are a constant flow of people and events, and have no beginning or end.«

Top 8.- Durarara!!

Note to self: 8.5 / 10

durarara, anime adaptado de las novelas ligeras de Ryohgo Narita

In the top 8 of recommended animes we find It will last!!, an incredible anime adapted from several light novels by Ryohgo Narita. This was his second job.

What makes this anime so spectacular is that it introduces us to around 12 different protagonists, and even though they all live in the same city, their lives follow completely different paths.

Without forgetting any of these characters, we follow the lives of each of them until all together they end up concluding a work of 36 chapters.

It is a very enjoyable anime, and even more so if you spend time thinking about everything the writer had to plan in advance to create such a complex story.

Top 7.- Baccano!

Note to self: 8 / 10

baccano, anime basado en las novelas ligeras de Ryohgo Narita

Fourteenth top recommended seinen animes: Baccano!, the first story that Ryohgo Narita wrote and with which he won the gold award for Best Novel of the year 2002. It focuses between the years 1930 and 1932, telling you two parallel stories, from the point of view of seven or eight different characters .

The main story takes place in 1931, when two groups of gangsters and two other groups of thieves coincide, kidnapping and robbing the same passenger train, respectively. In addition, two professional killers and a serial killer were also traveling on this train, and although the idea of this story is incredible and has no waste whatsoever, the most enjoyable thing is to see how all the details of each personal story are completed and understood only by witnessing the personal experiences of each of the characters, while the kidnapping took place.

Top 6.- Assassination Classroom

Note to self: 8.5 / 10

Assassination Classroom como uno de mi top 10 animes recomendados

Top 6 Recommended Seinen Animes: Assassination Classroom.

Assassination Classroom A friend recommended it to me, but it didn't catch my attention until I saw it later in some AMVs and decided to watch the anime.

It is the story of a group of disastrous students who have to kill the super powerful monster that is their teacher, but the story is not the most important thing, since it only serves as a background to later create truly epic scenes and moments, and that I, personally, enjoy it a lot.

If it is one of my favorite and most recommended animes, it is because it is full of typical dialogues or scenes where there is not much action, or little is said, but you have a story behind it that is perfectly put together so that precisely those moments are the best. most epic and emotional possible.

Furthermore, since it is an anime focused on education, almost in each chapter you can appreciate the true value of teaching: that which when we are little we barely understand during our stage of academic training... and that is that learning things at first glance is so Banales gives us a large number of tools and skills so that in the future we can decide better and solve problems knowing, at the very least, how to deal with them.

Top 5.- Nana

Note to self: 8 / 10

nana, top 1 de animes recomendados

Nana It occupies fifth place in this top of recommended seinen animes, and it is no wonder, because it has an incredible anime, and although in this case I do not know about its manga, I am sure that it cannot be for less.

It is the story of two Japanese girls with the same name, who by chance end up being roommates, and although they are two completely opposite poles, they both learn and grow a lot thanks to the friendship that unites them.

It is classified as a romance anime, but it undoubtedly goes much further than that, and can be enjoyed as a work with which we can all feel identified and learn in one way or another, because although it deals with romantic relationships, it does so in the most natural way possible and is not focus solely on it.

Nana is an experience to enjoy and learn from. If it were just a romance anime, believe me, it wouldn't be in this top 😉

Top 4.- Berserk

Note to self: 8 / 10

Berserk portada del anime y recomendación del manga

Top 4 Recommended Seinen Animes: Berserk.

In the world of anime and manga, as in any artistic field, there are pieces that are part of general culture. The manga of Berserk and its soundtracks are one of these pieces, so I was forced to give it a place in this article of recommended animes.

With one of the best and most detailed drawings of all the mangas, this work tells us the story of Guts, a mercenary from the Middle Ages who seeks to kill the one who was once his most precious companion for revenge.

The story is not much more complex, but somehow it makes you empathize with each and every one of the characters, and experience all the action almost in first person. It is a sensation that few works manage to create, and it develops in such a way that you immediately begin to want to read more and more chapters.

Top 3.- Parasyte

Note to self: 9 / 10

Parasyte portada del anime en mi top 10 de animes y mangas recomendados

Top 3 Recommended Seinen Animes: Parasyte.

Parasyte, of which I watched the anime although I am aware that it has an old, high-quality manga and even a live-action adaptation on Netflix, or something like that.

It could not be missing from this top of recommended animes, and this work touches on a very similar topic to that in position eight, asking the question of what if humans were not the predators, but the prey? I love how its story develops, all the philosophy behind it, and all the details that we can appreciate in each chapter.

I don't have much more to add about Parasyte, but it is undoubtedly a work created to raise awareness and give way to reflection.

Top 2.- Code Geass

Note to self: 10 / 10

Code Geass portada en mi top 10 animes recomendados

Top 2 Recommended Seinen Animes: Code Geass, my favorite anime.

In this case, I do recommend watching the anime, because it is much better and more complete than the manga, as strange as it may seem.

As we enter this work we move to a dystopian past where Japan has been conquered by the empire of Britannia and lives under great oppression.

In this scenario our protagonists appear, one of the most intelligent people in the world: Lelouch, and his best friend and at the same time one of the most prepared soldiers in the world: Suzaku.

Although they both have the same plan: to end tyranny, Lelouch will try to overthrow an entire empire by facing it on the battlefield, while Suzaku will put all his effort into changing Britannia from within.

It is my favorite anime for the simple reason that throughout the story we can appreciate the value and importance of the promise that Lelouch makes in the second chapter. It is undoubtedly an anime where great strategies are shown, but what stands out most are the intrinsic values of each character.

–My 10 Favorite Moments from Code Geass season 1–

Top 1.- Psycho Pass

Note to self: 10 / 10

Psycho Pass portada del manga de mi top 10 animes recomendados

Top 1 Recommended Seinen Animes: Psycho Pass, my second favorite anime.

It is perfectly adapted from the manga so if you have time I recommend watching the anime because the soundtrack and animations are very good.

In this work we move to Japan, in a utopian future, where an immense artificial intelligence ensures that everyone lives happily, has the most suitable job for him/her and any disease or potential criminal is detected in time.

It is in this environment when a criminal appears that The System does not classify as perverse, and the dilemma arises: If in the eyes of the people he is a criminal, but in the “eyes” of the system that governs the entire society, that person does not do nothing bad, how to act?

Anyone who questions the decisions of this super artificial intelligence will obviously be a criminal, so will our “cops” protagonists be able to eliminate the terrorist without being executed by The System? Without a doubt, it is an anime that makes you enjoy and reflect a lot.

Jaime Altozano made a video talking about the Psycho Pass soundtrack, briefly introducing its plot. It is without a doubt one of my favorite videos on all of YouTube: Jaime Altozano – Psycho Pass Music Analysis

Top 20 Seinen Animes that I recommend: Conclusion

These are my top 20 recommended seinen anime for anyone who hasn't seen them. They are not even my 20 favorite animes, much less the 20 animes with the most action in history, because as you can see the style of work that entertains me the most usually leaves the action a little more aside to dedicate more time to the construction of the story and giving it great meaning.

Lastly, if you've watched any of these recommended anime or manga and loved it, I'm sure you'll find all of them on this list equally fascinating.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, and Don't hesitate to leave in the comments what anime or manga you would recommend.. Greetings ^^
