Many times it happens that Having little information about a subject, our brain is responsible for creating theories to make it much easier to search for the remaining data. It is as if we shot at a wall and unconsciously drew a target where the shot hit, to convince ourselves of our good aim.
However, following this procedure has its downside, and If we take an incorrect theory for granted, we will unconsciously look for data that guides us towards something that is not true..
This is what happens today with many conspiracies such as flat earthism, or even with religious and spiritual beliefs, which then lead to great suggestion on the part of the defenders of these theories, who are in charge of looking only for arguments in favor of making those pieces fit into the puzzle that they themselves have shaped.
What Sherlock proposes is something very close to Scientific method, a completely objective procedure in which the data are what shape the conclusion, without taking anything for granted in the process.
