Altered Carbon – Recommendation

In this small section of recommendations I want to take advantage of today to, precisely, recommend my favorite television series: Altered Carbon; which by far earned first place when I saw it for the first time a couple of years ago.

It should be noted that it is my favorite short series, without a doubt, although then there are other endless series like Doctor Who that could also occupy the first place.

My personal TV series recommendation: Altered Carbon

Based on the fact that I don't like to waste time on series that don't have an interesting initial premise, Altered Carbon had me hooked from start to finish. It was nothing I had seen before in a television series, and with all the concepts it explores and everything that already invites you to reflect in the first chapter, it shows you that it is not going to be a boring series by any means.

In this futuristic and dystopian society the consciousness of each individual is stored on a micro-chip, so even if the body dies, the individual continues to exist, and only needs another body to regain physical form in the world. In this way, society is segmented on enormous scales:

  • There are those who have money, and can pay for reincarnations, and take advantage of an infinite amount of time to continue making money.
  • And on the other hand there are those who do not have as much economic capital and are forced to survive in their bodies knowing that they will not have a second chance.

Under this premise the story begins: in which an infinitely millionaire man buys a body for the consciousness of who was once one of the most lethal and cunning soldiers in the entire galaxy, and this soldier must discover who murdered the multi-millionaire. a few days ago (now he had revived again).

Altered Carbon, full of philosophy

This represents a revolution in the way a story is structured, because death no longer has as much value, and yet it is the fundamental pillar of this entire society.

¿What would you do with an infinite life? What value then does the passage of time have? What defines you as an individual, when even your own body is replaceable?

As you can imagine, Altered Carbon is a series full of very interesting philosophical and anthropological ideas, super valuable reflections on the future, and a great development of the story, which manages to leave you glued to the screen from beginning to end.

In addition to all this, it also has its own Japanese animation series (anime), which is based on the same philosophical premises.
