Elfen Lied: Anime Review and Personal Criticism

A mysterious girl destroys an entire barracks alone, murdering everyone around her, but loses her memory and is now an innocent girl. This is only a small part of what anime is. Elfen Lied. It is quite known for being one of the best gore of its time. However, I think very differently seeing it a few days ago. It seems like a very wasted anime for what it could have been. That said, it is still a general culture anime

Synopsis of Elfen Lied

I will leave a small synopsis ahead so you can learn a little more about the anime:

«Lucy is a special human race known as «Diclonius«, born with a pair of short horns and invisible telekinetic hands that make her a victim of inhumane scientific experimentation by the government. However, once circumstances present her with the opportunity to escape, Lucy, corrupted by confinement and torture, unleashes a torrent of bloodshed as she escapes her captors.

During her escape, she receives a paralyzing head injury that leaves her with a split personality: someone with the mentality of a harmless child who possesses a limited ability to speak. In this state of instability, he runs into two university students, Kouta and his cousin Yuka, who unknowingly take a wounded fugitive under their care. This act of kindness will change their lives, as they soon find themselves drawn into the shadowy world of government secrecy and conspiracy.

Personal Review – Review Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied is a pretty good anime when it comes to gore, especially knowing that it's from 2004. The plot is complex enough to raise doubts, but not so difficult that you don't understand what's going on. I like how almost everything has answers and you realize why things happen as the anime progresses. That said, I must mention that the ending seems very bad to me. I started watching this anime because I always read that it was a very good gore anime and that I should watch it no matter what, but when I finished it I couldn't help but think "Wow, what a waste of my time."

With this I don't want to say that the anime is complete garbage, but the ending left me with a bitter taste. Things were very rushed, and when it really got very interesting it just ended. As I read on some forums, the manga has a much better written story. So I'll think about whether to read it or not. After all... do I recommend it? Well, yes and no. If you don't like animes with unfinished endings that only leave you wanting to know more but without being able to have a solution, then I recommend it to you. If you don't like these endings, then don't watch it. In terms of horror and gore, I didn't feel it was the goriest thing in the world. I've certainly seen much bloodier anime, but you have to remember that it's a pretty old anime. The only reason I would recommend this anime is because it is general culture.
