Competitiveness: Men vs Women – MBTI Personalities

Competitiveness always seems more intrinsic in men than in women, but Are men really more competitive than women?

As soon as we try to relate the competitiveness of human beings and group them according to different personality types MBTI We can observe a clear trend:

The four profiles that are introverted and emotional (IF-) are precisely the four profiles with the least interest in winning, while the four profiles that are extroverted and analytical (ET-) are the four most interested in winning when they compete..

Ambition and Competitiveness

ISFP (Artist) is by far the least competitive profile (only 37% of the people who make it up show interest in winning when they compete), while its counterpart, ENTJ (Leader) is also by far the most competitive profile (the 89% of its members compete to win).

Competition between Men and Women

Returning to the classification from the beginning: if we take into account that the group (IF-) includes 36% of women in the world compared to 21% of men, we can also deduce that there will be far fewer women interested in competing than men.

Furthermore, the (ET-) profiles contain 24% from the male population, along with 12% from women. Also from these two data we can reach the conclusion that Globally there will be many more competitive men than women.

When we group the 16 MBTI Personalities into their four main groups we immediately see how the two most competitive personality sets are made up mostly of men, and vice versa.

More and less competitive profiles

Taking this into account and knowing the average competitiveness score of each personality type, we can calculate that 12% is the overall percentage of men who compete solely to have a good time compared to the 21% made up of women. On the other hand: the 19% of men will compete only to win, while only a 9% of women show this tendency.

What attributes are the most determining factors for competitiveness?

Studying the different MBTI profiles from different angles is always quite interesting, and in terms of competitiveness we obtain the following results when we look at each quality separately:

Each quality represented in green has the opposite quality to its right and in red.

YesBeing an Extroverted person (E) or an Analytical person (T) can greatly condition you to also be a competitive person., while the fact of varying between Sensitive/Intuitive (Y/N) or between Perception/Judgment (P/J) is less relevant in this aspect.

I also find it interesting to highlight that all the qualities encompass a greater percentage of people with the ambition to win than the other way around. It seems innate in all living things, but considering how diverse the human race is, it might not have been such an equitable graph.

Women and men among the most competitive qualities:

E, N, T and J are the most determining attributes when it comes to being an ambitious person, which is why I also found it interesting to take a look at the percentage of each gender.

competitividad entre hombres y mujeres según cualidades mbti

Although it is true that men and women are more or less equal in terms of the first, second and fourth quality, There is a big difference when it comes to talking about the way in which each person acts when faced with a challenge.: 58% of men are analytical, and the other 42% are more sentimental and act more impulsively, however here we see that only 24% of women present analytical behavior compared to the remaining 76%.

Taking into account that being an analytical person is a condition for also being an ambitious person, we can find here a small explanation as to why boys tend to be more competitive than girls.
