U.S. administration bans and blocks the use of TikTok on official devices
What’s happened? TikTok App banned and blocked in the United States?
Just two days ago, on December 27, 2022, the U.S. House Administration announced that the TikTok application will be banned from all official devices in the United States, i.e. those provided by the U.S. government or controlled and related to it.
For now the blocking has only been partial, affecting a total of 19 states, but it is expected that in the future it will be completely blocked.
Back in 2020 Trump announced during his term of office that he was going to ban the TikTok app, although in the end he was unable to do so. For these reasons, and because of the close relations between the U.S. and China, one could sense that in the end something had to happen, but certainly no one expected it to be so drastic and sudden.
However, it is not clear whether it will be legally possible to maintain this blockade or whether it may be in breach of U.S. law and the restriction imposed will have to be removed.
According to the U.S. House Administration, the reasons for banning TikTok are the high security risks of the famous app. Most likely they are referring to TikTok’s cession of data to the Chinese government, something that the US government does not take very well.
What about all the influencers and businesses?
We have to remember that this blocking only affects people related to the US government, and does not affect anyone outside the US administration.
While it is true that today this blocking should not worry too many people, the fact that the Tiktok app has already been banned on official devices in the United States scares many, as there is a possibility that in the future the app will be blocked for the entire population of the country, leaving thousands of people who currently live from this social media platform on the sidelines and negatively affected.
It must be taken into account that today thousands of people live from this app, and there are many other businesses that depend and benefit greatly from the advertising they can do through this type of social media, as it allows them to reach many more people for free, eliminating geographical or economic limits as other more traditional media such as an advertisement on a billboard or a spot on television.
